Brands that Support Typhoon Ondoy Victims

Typhoon Ondoy, with international code name Ketsana, totally devastated Metro Manila and its neighboring towns, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite.

In times like these, the Filipino Bayanihan spirit surfaces. Many organizations have used their establishments as drop-off points for relief goods waiting to be distributed to Typhoon Ondoy victims.

As I was listening on TV and radio, I caught some brand names offering support. One of which is the Plains & Prints donating t-shirts. I didn't quite get the other brands, so I searched for some of them.

This is what I got.

  • Aranaz Stores in Rockwell & Greenbelt is accepting donations of any kind for Payatas communities affected by Ondoy.
  • Papemelroti stores in 91 Roces Ave. / Ali Mall Cubao / SM City North EDSA / SM Fairview / SM Megamall / Glorietta 3 in Makati / SM Centerpoint / SM Southmall are accepting relief goods (canned goods / milk / bottled water / clothes – NO CASH pls.)

Thanks, ChapStick!

About six months ago, I noticed that my lips were dry. I was even surprised to have dry chapped lips since I don't drink coffee anymore. Instead, I drink milk or hot chocolate.

I tried applying petroleum jelly, but it didn't work. Then a friend suggested that I put on ChapStick Moisturizer. Unfortunately at that time, I didn't find a moisturizer. So I tried the classics and chose spearmint flavor (I tried the strawberry flavor a long time ago, and I didn't like it).

Voila! After a week of continued use, my dry chapped lips turned to supple again. Now, I'm still using the ChapStick Spearmint. I use it every day as base for lip gloss or lipstick.

So thanks, ChapStick! :)

The L'Oreal Effect

I stumbled upon an interesting article about the L'Oreal effect or the Lipstick effect.

Just what is this L'Oreal or Lipstick Effect?

L'Oreal, over the years has seen that their sales during economic downtun, recession stays consistent or increases. This trend has been observed since 1929, great depression in the US and in the 1937 recession.

In fact, in 2002, Lindsay Owen Jones, Chairman and CEO of L'Oreal said, "We are fortunate to be operating in markets that are less sensitive than others to economic cycles. When the outlook is gloomy, a customer who delays the purchase of a consumer durable will continue to buy cosmetics products as they provide a sense of well-being at a reasonable price."

This phenomenon of L'Oreal doing well in sales during the economic downturns is called "L'Oreal effect."

It's also known as lipstick effect i.e., during a recession, the tendency of consumers to purchase small, comforting items such as lipstick rather than large luxury items. The reason is that women traditionally turn to lipstick when they cut back on life's other luxuries. They see lipstick, which sells for as little as $1.99 at a supermarket to $20-plus at a department store, as a reasonable indulgence and pick-me-up when they feel they can't afford a whole new outfit.

Ruby Tuesday: Red Cactuses

These flaming red cacti are awesome, don't you think so?

This is one of the varieties of flowers or plants that you get to see when you visit Davao. :) But with the thorns crowning the red flowers, you get a feeling of "touch me not." Beautiful but dangerous! :D

Weekend Snapshot: Bayo Knitted Blouse

A couple of weekends ago, I got this knitted blouse from Bayo, Powerplant Mall in Rockwell. I got it at a 50% discount. Isn't it cool? ;)

I like its color, its style with a long hem and plunging neckline. The style makes me look taller.

Like any other Bayo clothes, I can wear it during casual and formal occasions. :)

Incidentally, Bayo has a new advocacy. Bayo customers can now help feed a child. Check out their website for more info about this. :)

Bayo's Black Silky Blouse

I don't really know how you call this blouse. It's like a blouse and a blazer in one. There is only one button at the top, and when I wear it, I have to wear a flimsy sexy blouse inside.

I love it because it's stylish and comfy. I can wear it to the office and even to night parties. I can pair it with jeans or slacks and embellish it with accessories. :)

Get it from Bayo!
